My Story
The healer lives within you. It just needs awakening.
As a kid, I practiced kung fu, and I remember feeling chi when I trained. When I felt sick, I would instinctively place my hands on my body, feeling the tingling in my fingertips and palms to make myself better. I don’t know how I knew what to do, but I think the kung fu is why.
Decades later, after a Reiki session, I met my teacher, and thanks to her encouragement, I began learning Usui Reiki. It felt like I was completing a circle.
In 2020, I began studying the Kabbalistic Tree of Life, and in 2022 I became a Usui Reiki Shihan. Each teaches me about energy from a different perspective.
The clearer I am as a vessel, the more energy can flow through me to another. This comes from inner work, but I can never get too comfortable, for when I feel I’m over something, life reminds me that healing is cyclical, not linear. Wounds that once drove me to destroy myself are still there, but now they are my fuel to create and learn.
What is Usui Reiki?
Reiki is a Japanese word made of two parts: rei, often translated as universal or spiritual, and ki, meaning energy or life force. Together, they are commonly understood as “universal life energy.” Ki is the same life force known as qi (chi) in China and prana in India, an idea found in healing traditions around the world: that the energy of life flows through us and around us.
Usui Reiki is a gentle practice of relaxation and self-care that originated in Japan in the early 20th century. Practitioners place their hands lightly on or just above the body with the intention of supporting balance and well-being for the recipient. The practitioner often feels warmth or tingling in the hands, and the recipient often feels it too, in the body. Many people describe feeling calm, relaxed, grounded, and more connected to themselves afterward.
Reiki is a practice anyone can learn. No prior experience, special ability, or belief system is required. Level 1 teaches you to practice on yourself, so it becomes a lifelong tool for self-healing and regulation that doesn’t depend on a practitioner. You are the conduit to heal yourself and, if you choose, to help others do the same.
Reiki is offered in many hospitals and clinics, and as a complement to medical care, never a replacement for it.
